About Columbia AI

Columbia AI is a University-wide initiative powered by the Data Science Institute to bring artificial intelligence to every field, academic discipline, and domain area. The initiative enables Columbia’s schools, institutes, centers, and affiliates to lead and contribute to the future of AI—through coordinated, distinct efforts, supported by critical resources and infrastructure to forge innovative, interdisciplinary partnerships.
This comprehensive approach is designed to apply AI across all academic fields, but also to ensure that it is developed and implemented in ways that are responsible and reflective of the University's commitment to societal impact.
Driven by leadership at Columbia Engineering, the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research, and the Data Science Institute, this initiative leverages Columbia’s unparalleled ability to convene experts from across disciplines to advance AI in ways that benefit all of humanity, making it a pivotal player in the global AI landscape.
Through this initiative, each of Columbia University’s schools, centers, and institutes is integrating AI into teaching and research, drawing on the Data Science Institute for infrastructure and intellectual resources to explore AI in its own unique context.
The Data Science Institute's Role in Columbia AI
The Data Science Institute (DSI) is where interdisciplinary collaboration and AI innovation converge. DSI’s established community of cross-disciplinary research provides an inclusive forum where students and researchers from different schools can come together. As they work to explore AI’s potential, develop new technologies, and address the ethical and societal implications of this transformative technology, DSI is helping propel Columbia’s leadership in AI and ensuring that diverse perspectives have a seat at the table to shape a future where responsible AI benefits society as a whole.
