Fred Jiang

Electrical Engineering

Xiaofan (Fred) Jiang is creating technologies and systems that improve diverse dimensions of urban living. His research projects include reducing energy consumptions in cities, improving personal health and fitness, making streets safer for pedestrians, accurately counting and tracking occupants indoors, and monitoring real-time air quality at scale. Much of his work has been commercialized and has had a significant impact on people's lives. He leads the Columbia Intelligent and Connected Systems Lab (Columbia ICSL), with a mission to develop novel wearable devices, city-scale Internet of Things (IoT) systems, and real-time data analytics to make cities safer and more sustainable.
